Dear Friend:
Happy New Year! I love all the “2008 is going to be great!” bumper stickers everywhere. If you believe that whatever you put your attention on grows, then we’re in good shape based on this group affirmation!
There is always a lot of conversation around resolutions in the New Year. I’m a big advocate for setting intentions on how you want to direct your energy and where you want to focus, but I think it’s just as important to reflect on where you’ve been. Find some quiet time this week (and if you’re in a relationship, ask your partner to join you) and write down:
• What did I learn personally and professionally in 2007?
• What did I try for the first time, this past year (or when did I step outside of my comfort zone)?
• What action, choice or decision did I make in 2007 that surprised me?
• What am I most proud of accomplishing in 2007?
Curl up by a fire or light a candle, find a cozy, quiet corner, sit down with a mug of something hot and give yourself at least 30 minutes to finish this exercise. Then share your answers with a close friend or with your partner.
My gift to you this typically busy month (as we all play catch-up from a long lazy holiday) is the ability to be more present. Here is one of my favorite chapters from The Mother’s Guide to Self-Renewal on this very topic: Being Present and Remembering What Really Matters.
Sending you wisdom, clarity and a sense of purpose in this wondrous New Year. Please let me know how I can help you in 2008. With appreciation and support—Warmly, Renee
P.S. For those of you who have asked when the Guide will be in your local bookstore—the answer is April 1! The book will be distributed internationally beginning in the spring. It’s still and will always be available at www.reneetrudeau.com and www.amazon.com.
